INDIANAPOLIS--Eastern College Athletic Conference Lacrosse League members Loyola University Maryland and the University of Denver have been selected for the 16-team NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship field, which was announced this week by the NCAA. This marks the first time that the ECAC has had multiple teams in the NCAA tournament in two seasons.
The Greyhounds (14-1 overall) are the top seed in the tournament and will host Canisius (6-7) in the first round on Saturday at 5 p.m., as the game will be televised on ESPNU and streamed over the Internet at ESPN3.com. Loyola has won a school-record 14 games this year and earned an automatic bid after capturing its first ECAC tournament title on Friday. The Greyhounds will host an NCAA game for the first time since 2000, in this their 18th tournament appearance.
The Pioneers (8-6) received an at-large berth and will travel to Chapel Hill to play No. 8-seeded North Carolina (11-5) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Live on ESPNU/ESPN3). Denver is making its third straight NCAA tournament and fifth in program history.
