Dan Ghormley 1942-2007

HYANNIS - Dan Dyer Ghormley died suddenly at home in Hyannis on Dec. 26, 2007.

Born in Glendale, Calif., on Feb. 13, 1942, Dan grew up in Southern California and was a star track athlete and football player in his younger days. He was educated at Washington State University and earned a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in administration.

Dan had a long career in coaching and athletic administration. His work as an Assistant Commissioner with the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference brought him to Cape Cod in 1989. He retired in 1997, and over the last 10 years, due to health concerns, Dan transitioned into in-home sales and several other smaller part-time jobs, including delivery for the Cape Cod Times, On the Water, and the Auto Trader.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dyer Ghormley; his mother, Betty Ghormley Maier; and his brother, David Ghormley. Dan is survived by his wife, Rosalinda Arcebuche; his son, Matthew Ghormley; and his brother, James Ghormley. He was stepfather "Uncle Dan" to six stepchildren, Lani, Ylene, Michael, Christina, James, and Vincent "Chubby." Dan was "grandpa" to nine loving grandchildren, R.D., Justin, Lindsey, Drake, Nicole, Phoebe, Alexa, Arianna, and Talon. He was dearly loved by all.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 1:30 p.m., at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., Hyannis, MA.
