The person selected reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for performing functions associated with managing the athletic department's media relations and game operations activities. The successful candidate must possess an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of organizing, directing and administering a college sports information program including preparing written game reports, managing the athletics webpage, collecting and preparing game statistics for 14 varsity athletic teams, maintaining in-game stats, performing other media relations functions. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to the success of student-athletes and will possess necessary technical expertise and excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. The person selected will work closely with other coaches, staff and the college community to publicize and represent the athletic program in local, regional and national media.
Other specific duties and responsibilities will include:
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the media and the general public
• Hire, train and supervise work-study personnel
• Ability to speak to large groups as a public address announcer at sporting events
• Knowledge of the procedures for the production of sports information publications
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Stat Crew.
• Develop marketing and media plan for department (including social media)
• Collaborate with on-campus student-groups for events
• Ability to lead by example demonstrating high levels of sportsmanship and conduct when representing the Emerson College brand.
• Serve on department and campus-wide committees as requested.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work while maintaining confidential administrative records
• Serve in an administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; a Masters degree is preferred. Experience in managing a sports information program at the collegiate level is preferred. Excellent writing ability and technical skills are required. . Must have a valid Massachusetts driver's license. The position requires evening and weekend work, as well as travel with select teams and to off-campus venues. Requires a general knowledge of computers and graphic design for publication layout. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds of event equipment, computers and boxes of media guides. Must have a personal vehicle to commute from different sporting venues.
