Ben Layton has been in his role as the director of sport administration at the Eastern College Athletic Conference since November 2008. Ben’s role with the ECAC is to oversee the operational logistics and event management of more than 65 championships in 17 men’s and women’s sports for the organization’s Division I, II and III member institutions.

Before coming to the ECAC, Ben worked for the city of Rocky Mount, N.C., as the sports complex director for four years.  He assisted in the construction of the new $18 million Sports Complex and ran the day-to-day operations of the facility once it opened in 2006, bringing large-scale baseball, softball, soccer and other sports championship events to the Rocky Mount area as part of the city’s long-term economic impact strategic plan.

From 2001 to 2005, Ben was the Five Country Stadium director of operations for the Carolina Mudcats, now the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. He assisted in the construction of a new $15 million facility for the Mudcats and oversaw the daily management and staffing of the baseball park during the season. During the off-season, Ben was a member of the corporate sales and marketing development team and he also assisted with the computer graphic art design department for the Mudcats.

Ben started working in the sports industry as a student at Indiana University, where he assisted the Hoosiers athletics department with all varsity sports, including game-day operations, for over three years, He also spent his summers as a college intern for the Carolina Mudcats, performing tasks in the areas of stadium operations, tickets and concessions management.  

Ben, 32, is a native of Rossville, Ind., and he graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor of science in kinesiology in December 2000.

Ben and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Harwich with their daughter Emily (4) and son Tyler (2).
