Conferences: The CUNY Athletic Conference rehired Tom Emberley as the assistant director/director of media relations. Emberley worked for the conference in the same capacity from 2007 to 2008 before departing for the East Coast Conference to serve as an assistant commissioner.

NCAA News: On the eve of announcing the addition of varsity men’s and women’s ice hockey programs, Penn State named Joe Battista associate athletics director for ice arena operations and the director of the ice arena and hockey campaign. Battista is credited with securing the largest gift in university history for the planned facility and programs. Battista previously served as the executive director of the Nittany Lion Club from 2006 to 2009 and was most recently the director of major gifts for the university’s college of business.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – Holy Cross selected Patricia Sutton as assistant coach of the women’s lacrosse program. Sutton spent the past two years as an assistant coach with the women’s lacrosse program at Albany.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – St. Michael’s promoted Eileen Hall to head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Hall, who was an assistant coach last season, assumes the position following the retirement of Jim Donoghue after 12 seasons at the helm of both programs.

Associate directors of athletics – Jonathan Evans was appointed deputy athletics director at Army following four years as associate athletics director at College of Charleston.
Women’s basketball – Cindy Blodgett, head coach of the Maine women’s basketball program, agreed to a contract extension through the 2012-2013 season. Blodgett was a basketball student-athlete at Maine in the 1990s and was named head coach of the program in 2007.
Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – Rensselaer hired Doug McIver as assistant coach of the men’s lacrosse program. McIver is a former lacrosse student-athlete from LeMoyne, and was a goaltender during the Dolphins 2008 and 2009 NCAA championship appearances.
Men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistants – Ashton Piers and Lindsay Bates returned to their alma mater St. Joseph’s (Maine) as assistant coaches of the women’s swimming program. Piers and Bates were among the first swimming student-athletes when the program began in 2007, and both graduated earlier this year.
Sports information – Massachusetts-Boston appointed Dan Campagna to the position of interim director of athletics communication after the departure of Alan Wickstrom. Campagna served as a graduate assistant in the sports information office the past two years.
Committee vacancies - The NCAA is soliciting nominations for an immediate vacancy on the Division III Men’s Tennis Committee. The appointee will replace Tracy King, Skyline Conference, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be from the Northeast region. The committee has a strong preference for a coach. The deadline for submitting nomination materials is October 22, 2010. Nominations must be submitted online at: https://web1.ncaa.org/committees/selection.jsp (Division III access code: committee3; Division III password: 2006).
